Engineer 2 UG Drill & Blast at Geita Gold Mine Tanzania

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

• The Drill and Blast Engineer 2 (Underground) is responsible for developing optimum drill and blast designs to support production and mining efficiency, preparing required reports and stope inputs, supporting safe implementation of drill and blast activities, conducting underground inspections, and carrying out electronic firing of stopes.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Design and optimize stopes, drilling layouts, and charge plans to achieve required fragmentation, recovery, and production efficiency while minimizing dilution.
• Review drill and blast performance, QAQC data, parameters, and equipment to improve performance, reduce costs, and support continuous improvement.
• Prepare drill and blast reports, stope notes, 3MS inputs, production reports, schedules, and stope closure documentation in a timely manner.
• Support short term stope planning and required stope development scheduling in line with the underground mine plan and ore feed requirements.
• Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental, and statutory requirements, including participation in inspections, audits, meetings, and explosive storage inspections.
• Coordinate with Drill and Blast Engineer 3, contractors, and other mine stakeholders, and provide guidance and coaching to Graduate and Junior Engineers.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

• Degree in B.Sc. in Mining Engineering.
• Valid Driving License.
• Valid Blasting Certificates.

Experience

• 4+ years of working experience in underground drill and blast and underground operations.
• Experience working at a mechanized mine.
• Previous experience in Longhole Open Stoping and Transverse Stoping mining methods.
• Experience in planning is an added advantage.
• Track record of identifying and communicating safety, health, and environmental issues or concerns.
• Experience managing teams to achieve successful outcomes.

Knowledge & Skills

• High level of computer literacy with mining software including Aegis, Vulcan, Datamine, and Deswik, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
• Working knowledge of underground mining and haulage.
• Understanding of drill design assumptions, optimization, and performance improvement.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a culturally diversified workforce.
• Ability to record and manage data and reports.
• Good English communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work under minimum supervision while adhering to safety and task priorities.
• Ability to coach and train Graduate and Junior Engineers.
• Basic First Aid Knowledge.
• Physically and mentally fit.
