Provide technical support across the broader flowsheet, identify gaps and optimisation opportunities beyond the immediate section where required, report directly to the Superintendent 2 – Process Technical, and deputize for the Superintendent-2 as needed.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

Technical- Core (applies to all Senior Metallurgist positions)

  • Provide discipline-specific technical support within the assigned section for the purpose of optimizing plant performance and resource recovery
  • Analyze process and ore characteristics data, and their impact on recovery, throughput, and operating costs
  • Proactively identify processing inefficiencies and develop optimization opportunities through structured test work programmes
  • Develop, implement and maintain standard operating procedures and control philosophies for the section
  • Lead or participate in root cause analysis (RCA/ICAM) and corrective action plans (CAP/CAPA) for process deviations, incidents and non-conformances
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (mining, geology, maintenance, laboratory, other process sections) to align findings with plant operations
  • Prepare accurate technical reports, KPI trend analyses, project updates, and presentations for senior management and stakeholders
  • Support annual budgeting and cost control for the section, including reagents, consumables, energy and maintenance inputs
  • Ensure data integrity, accuracy and timeliness of process, metallurgical and reconciliation reporting
  • Must have relevant and adequate technical skills on comminution and hydrometallurgy of gold (crushing, milling, CIL) and be capable of performing plant performance analysis and identifying gaps across the entire flowsheet
  • Must have the relevant and adequate technical skills on the communition and hydrometallurgy of gold i.e. crushing, milling, carbon in leach (must be capable of performing plant performance analysis, identify gaps and optimization initiatives across the entire flowsheet)
  • Prepare technical reports, project updates, and presentations for senior management and stakeholders.

Technical — Section-Specific (apply according to the incumbent's assigned area of deployment)

A. Comminution (Crushing & Milling)

  • Optimize SAG/Ball milling circuit performance, including throughput, product particle size (P80), power draw and recirculating load
  • Monitor and manage SAG mill charge weight, ball charge and liner wear; plan reline and media replacement schedules
  • Optimize cyclone classification efficiency and circuit stability
  • Analyze ore hardness, competency and grindability variability, and their impact on throughput and downstream recovery

B. Leach / CIL / CIP Operations

  • Manage leach and CIL/CIP circuit performance: cyanide dosing, dissolved oxygen, pH, and retention time optimization
  • Optimize gold dissolution kinetics and minimize soluble and carbon-in-pulp gold losses to tailings
  • Manage carbon inventory, carbon activity, carbon advance and acid-wash/regeneration cycles
  • Ensure cyanide handling and management complies with the International Cyanide Management Code and site permits

C. Gold Room & Elution

  • Oversee elution circuit, electrowinning, smelting and doré bar production
  • Ensure gold room security, custody, weighing and bullion dispatch protocols are strictly followed
  • Manage carbon regeneration kiln and acid-wash operations feeding the elution circuit
  • Ensure refining quality and reconciliation of bullion produced against process records

D. Metal Accounting & Reconciliation

  • Maintain the primary mass balance, F-factor calculations and end-to-end process reconciliation
  • Manage gold-in-process inventory and refinery/final product reconciliation
  • Apply AMIRA P754 code of practice and Gy's sampling theory; lead laboratory and plant sampling QAQC governance
  • Investigate, explain and resolve reconciliation variances and metallurgical accounting discrepancies, including statistical bias detection and uncertainty analysis

E. Metallurgical Laboratory

  • Manage laboratory activities including sample preparation, fire assay and metallurgical test work
  • Ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results and drive continuous improvement of laboratory processes
  • Maintain the QAQC programme (standards, blanks, duplicates, control charts) and equipment calibration
  • Support geometallurgical and plant optimization test work requirements

F. Geometallurgy

  • Develop and implement geometallurgical models to support process optimization and resource/mine planning
  • Collaborate with geology and mining teams to integrate geometallurgical insights into mine planning
  • Analyze ore characteristics (mineralogy, hardness, deleterious elements) and their impact on recovery, throughput and operating costs
  • Lead future test-work programmes aimed at beneficiation of refractory ores and reagent optimization

G. Water Treatment & Environmental

  • Supervise water treatment plant operations, ensuring compliance with NEMC and other environmental regulations
  • Identify and implement best practice to improve water quality and treatment efficiency
