Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Actively contribute to the Maintenance Training team by supporting continuous improvement in compliance with site and corporate safety, environmental, and competency development requirements.
- Ensure all hazards, incidents, and near-miss events are formally reported and assist with timely investigations, where required.
- Ensure effective controls are implemented and maintained to support safe systems of work and effective environmental management.
- Implement site initiatives aimed at continuously improving training systems and processes.
- Meet or exceed all Safety Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including Lost Time Injuries (LTIs), Job Safety Observations (JSOs), and audit performance.
- Promote a safe and environmentally responsible workplace culture through positive personal behaviour, commitment to safety and environmental standards, and leading by example.
- Support Maintenance leaders in managing the performance and development of direct reports through training, coaching, regular performance feedback, annual appraisals, and recognition to enhance professional development and operational efficiency.
- Review the suitability and effectiveness of training programs and recommend improvements where required.
- Communicate company policies, procedures, and standards clearly to ensure full understanding and compliance.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and mentoring to trainees, graduates, apprentices, and other employees.
- Work collaboratively with employees at all levels of the organisation and contribute positively as a member of the Maintenance Training team.
- Recognise and consider cultural and educational differences when training, assessing, and mentoring maintenance personnel and contractors.
- Develop, coordinate, implement, and deliver training for local, national, and expatriate employees and contractors in accordance with the annual Site Training Plan, Training Needs Analysis (TNA), and approved training calendars and schedules. Coordinate vendor-led training as required.
- Ensure workforce development plans are in place to provide SMCL with a competent and skilled workforce capable of meeting future operational requirements and localisation targets, in compliance with SMCL guidelines and Tanzanian legislation.
- Assist with the administration, review, and monitoring of the annual training budget as part of SMCL's Operating and Capital Budget process, ensuring adequate resources are available to support the Business Plan.
- Liaise with departmental managers, supervisors, and contractors to identify current and future training requirements.
- Assist Supervisors and Trainers in developing, implementing, and evaluating technical and non-technical training programs for all Maintenance employees.
