Job Purpose

The purpose of this document is to highlight the key responsibilities of the Boiler Laboratory Analyst. It also describes the KPIs for the analyst to ensure good performance at the station as well as his/her decision rights.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure proper analysis of boiler water, water treatment, and water tower samples by following the procedures for each sample as outlined in the Laboratory Manual.
• Ensure the correct reagents and chemicals are used for each specific sample and report any expired reagents or chemicals to the Laboratory Technician.
• Ensure that all KPIs remain within their operating range by reporting any deviations to the Laboratory Technician.
• Ensure any results outside the specified operating range are recorded on the non-conformance sheet in accordance with work instructions and raise an Incident Report.
• Ensure good housekeeping is maintained within the laboratory.
• Inspect laboratory instruments regularly and report any observed damage.
• Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your actions or omissions.
• Report any incident that may affect health, cause injury, or have an environmental impact.
• Perform all tasks with awareness towards the prevention of any form of pollution to the surrounding environment.
• Ensure proper handover is carried out at the end of each shift.

Required Skills

• Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge and skills to interpret data analysis results.
• Skills and knowledge to check laboratory instrument performance.

Qualifications

• Certificate or Diploma in Laboratory Science or an equivalent Laboratory Assistant course.
• Minimum one (1) year of experience in a similar role.
• Experience in sugar laboratory procedures will be an added advantage.
