Job Description

People Project is recruiting on behalf of a growing mining company operating in Tanzania. The organization is expanding its mineral processing operations and is seeking an experienced Plant Manager to lead the safe, efficient, and commercially responsible operation of its mineral processing plant.

This is a leadership role suited to an experienced mineral processing professional with a strong operational background, excellent people management skills, and proven success in driving production performance, process optimization, and continuous improvement within a mining environment.

Role Purpose:

The Plant Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the mineral processing plant, ensuring production, recovery, product quality, maintenance, safety, and cost targets are consistently achieved. The successful candidate will lead plant operations, develop operational strategies, optimize metallurgical performance, and build a high-performing operations team while ensuring compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and statutory requirements.

General Responsibilities:

Plant Operations & Production

  • Lead the daily operation of the mineral processing plant to achieve production and recovery targets.
  • Develop and implement production plans, operating procedures, and key performance indicators.
  • Maximize plant throughput, recovery rates, and product quality while minimizing downtime, process losses, and operating costs.
  • Monitor and optimize processing circuits including crushing, grinding, screening, gravity concentration, leaching, and other applicable mineral processing activities.
  • Analyse production and metallurgical data to identify improvement opportunities and implement process optimization initiatives.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports, forecasts, and operational performance analyses.

Process Improvement & Technical Excellence

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant efficiency and productivity.
  • Monitor metallurgical performance and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Maintain accurate metallurgical accounting, production reconciliation, and inventory records.
  • Support plant commissioning, expansion, debottlenecking, modification, and optimization projects.
  • Ensure operational procedures remain aligned with industry best practices.

Maintenance & Asset Management

  • Collaborate closely with the engineering and maintenance teams to develop preventive and predictive maintenance programmes.
  • Ensure optimal equipment availability and reliability through effective maintenance planning.
  • Monitor and control consumption of fuel, power, water, reagents, chemicals, and other operating consumables.
  • Liaise with equipment suppliers and contractors to ensure quality workmanship and technical compliance.

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, mentor, coach, and develop plant supervisors, operators, technicians, and support staff.
  • Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, operational excellence, and continuous learning.
  • Conduct performance management, workforce planning, succession planning, and employee development initiatives.
  • Foster strong collaboration between plant operations, mining, geology, laboratory, engineering, maintenance, and site management teams.

Health, Safety & Environmental Management

  • Promote a strong safety culture across all plant operations.
  • Ensure full compliance with occupational health, safety, environmental, and mining regulations.
  • Lead incident investigations, risk assessments, corrective actions, and safety improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure environmental controls and statutory reporting obligations are consistently achieved.

Financial & Commercial Management

  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets and operating costs.
  • Monitor operational expenditure and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
  • Support procurement planning and supplier performance management.
  • Ensure effective inventory control of critical spare parts and consumables.
