Job Description

Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit an Expat Leading Hand Mechanic to join and grow our team. The successful candidate for this position is expected to align to the Barrick DNA and drive a change within his team and the business, and on a practical note, will ensure activities in the Engineering & Services department are effectively planned and undertaken safely and cost-effectively to achieve targets in accordance with BGML Mining Safety Standards, Policies, and Procedures.

Reporting to: HME Superintendent

Duration: Fixed Term

Key roles and responsibilities will be:

Reporting to the HME Foreman, the overall position objective is to provide leadership, systems, and strategies that deliver accepted best practice in the maintenance of mining equipment which will leverage available equipment to deliver safe, profitable gold production as well as facilitate training and upskilling of the workforce through industry best practices.

  • Report defects and equipment breakdowns to the Supervisor on a shift basis and provide the best maintenance solutions. 
  • Follow all maintenance procedures and ensure the completion of mechanical activities according to standard without causing any damage to any component/system/equipment. 
  • Ensure equipment isolation, adhere to working at height and confined space standards/ procedures, and conduct pre-start checks/ inspections.
  • Carry out mechanical repair and preventive maintenance to maintain Plant & Mobile Equipment safely and efficiently to achieve production and cost targets.
  • Carry out troubleshooting, fault finding, and corrective maintenance to solve unplanned equipment unavailability events.
  • Ensure that maintenance practices result in maximum equipment availability.
  • Utilize work instructions to determine job requirements, including job sheets, quality, and quantity of materials/resources etc.
  • Perform PM inspection according to the maintenance requirements and ensure preventive maintenance compliance.
  • Conduct Mobile & Plant equipment upgrade/ modification as required.
  • Removal of machine components & replacement
  • Provide accurate and timely feedback to the Supervisor on conditions that may affect the functionality of the equipment.
  • Follow up of outstanding maintenance/ repairs.
  • Complete shift handover process
  • Provide appropriate on-the-job training and coaching to the team.
  • Coordinate various engineering functions and operations, including mobile fleet management, maintenance, and skills transfer.
  • Ensure that the maintenance and overhaul of machinery, auto-electrical equipment installed and/or operated, is in accordance with relevant standards.
  • Plan future work requirements with the supervisor and plan corrective measures to rectify.
  • Identify critical spares requirements and place orders according to procedure.
  • Performing statutory testing and inspections on all electrical distribution systems.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant Trade Certificate Diesel Mechanic/ Fitter.
  • Valid Driver’s License. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Diesel Mechanic/ Fitter
