Job Description

The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is seeking to recruit an Airleg Operator to join and grow our team.

Responsibilities 

  • Operate airleg drilling equipment to drill blast holes according to mining plans and specifications.
  • Inspect drilling equipment before, during, and after use to ensure safe operation.
  • Set up and position airleg drills accurately for efficient drilling.
  • Identify and mark drilling locations based on mine plans and supervisor instructions.
  • Monitor drilling conditions and adjust drilling techniques as required.
  • Maintain drill bits, rods, hoses, and associated equipment.
  • Report equipment faults, breakdowns, and unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Assist with charging, blasting preparation, and other mining activities where required.
  • Follow all health, safety, environmental, and mining regulations.
  • Keep work areas clean and free from hazards.
  • Complete daily production and equipment inspection reports.
  • Achievement of drilling and production targets.
  • Compliance with safety procedures and regulations.
  • Equipment uptime and proper maintenance.
  • Quality and accuracy of drilled holes.
  • Incident and accident-free performance.
  • Timely reporting of equipment defects and workplace hazards.

Qualification requirements

  • Certificate of Secondary Education.
  • Airleg drill operation skills.
  • Certificate or training in Underground Mining Operations is an added advantage
  • Possess a Valid Tanzanian driving license, class B, C, D and E.
  • Equipment Operator licenses. 

Experience and competencies needed.

  • Proven experience operating airleg drills in mining environments. 
  • At least 3 years industry experience in Mining/Construction Operations 
  • Airleg drill operation skills
  • Knowledge of drilling techniques, mine safety standards, and equipment maintenance
  •  Equipment inspection and basic maintenance skills.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work in confined underground environments.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant Standard Operating Procedures. 
  • Formal Training Certification for all types of Equipment claimed to operate.  Knowledge of safety systems & incident investigation.
  • Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment. 
  • Sound knowledge of workplace safety & health. 
  • Country of Origin Driving License. 
  • Sound Knowledge of Crane Operations, lift plans & Calculations, soil inspections etc.
  • Able to Drive Manual Transmission/Stick Shift Transmission.
  • Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practice.
  • Performance orientated, strongly motivated and maintains a high work standard. Strong work ethic. Shows initiative. Adaptable to change management processes. Focused on continuous improvement.
