Job Description

Location: Nyanzaga Mine Site, Tanzania
Employment Type: Fixed Term of 24 Months

Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited (SMLC) is seeking a Boilermaking Maintenance Supervisor to coordinate and prioritize site boilermaking repairs and maintenance activities across the Processing Plant, Light Mobile, Heavy Mobile, and Non-Process Infrastructure equipment.

The Supervisor will act as management's representative in interpreting company policies and procedures and enforcing safety regulations. The role involves working closely with site shift supervisors to ensure boilermaking maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, cost-effectively, and in an environmentally responsible manner.

Key Responsibilities

Safety, Environment & Community Relations

  • Adhere to company policies and procedures relating to safety, environment, health and community relations, with a commitment to the Zero Harm philosophy.
  • Lead site initiatives to improve understanding of safe working practices and equipment safety.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with Perseus OHS&E and community relations policies and procedures.
  • Understand and apply Tanzania Mining and OSHA regulations relating to engineering and safety requirements.
  • Ensure maintenance personnel understand their OHSE responsibilities and are held accountable.
  • Participate actively in relevant incident investigations.
  • Monitor team member fatigue exposure.
  • Maintain awareness of community relations and the interaction between the mining operation and the local community.

People Management

  • Lead the Boilermaking Team to achieve quality outcomes and procedural compliance.
  • Lead by example and provide positive direction while working effectively under pressure.
  • Support performance management through training, coaching, feedback and annual appraisals.
  • Recognize employee performance and support professional development.
  • Assist with conflict resolution where required.
  • Provide input into performance management, termination, compensation and promotion decisions.

Operations

  • Coordinate work priorities with Operations and adjust maintenance schedules to meet production requirements.
  • Direct and monitor maintenance personnel and contractors.
  • Supervise preventative Process Plant maintenance in accordance with manufacturer recommendations while maintaining safety and production KPIs.
  • Prioritize equipment breakdowns and failures to minimize processing downtime.
  • Support training and development of assistants and apprentices.
  • Contact maintenance on-call personnel when required.
  • Coordinate emergency and scheduled overtime work.
  • Ensure all procedural documentation is completed and submitted on time.
  • Ensure PMG and contract workers have the tools required to comply with procedures.
  • Establish and adjust work schedules based on production requirements, available manpower and emergency work.
  • Oversee installation and replacement of tank linings, valves, lead pipes and floors.
  • Oversee maintenance plant shutdowns and start-ups.
  • Monitor maintenance execution to ensure equipment operates within appropriate temperature ranges.
  • Design patterns and models for boilermaking projects using blueprint specifications.
  • Scope repairs and prepare accurate material requirements while maintaining cost awareness.
  • Analyze work problems and recommend improvements to equipment performance, maintenance processes, product quality, working conditions and equipment utilization.
  • Monitor maintenance team productivity and housekeeping and ensure HSE compliance.
  • Prepare daily shift reports.

Skills, Abilities and Attributes

Essential

  • Minimum of 10 years' post-trade experience as a Boilermaker in Mining Process Plant Maintenance.
  • Minimum of 5 years' supervisory experience in gold processing plants, heavy mining or a similar environment.
  • Strong technical experience in boilermaking repairs, fabrication, installation and maintenance of large gold processing plant equipment and earthmoving fleets.
  • Experience with equipment including crushers, conveyors, mills, gyratory crushers, tank circuits, spools, wear plates, liners, ground-engaging wear protection, chassis structural repairs, buckets, trays and blades.
  • Strong leadership, coaching and team management capabilities.
  • Ability to assess difficult situations and make appropriate decisions regarding equipment condition and corrective actions.
  • Ability to develop Job Hazard Analyses and Risk Assessments for maintenance activities.
  • Proactive approach to Process Plant maintenance and commitment to best-practice maintenance and data recording.
  • Thorough knowledge of maintenance principles and industry standards, including long-, medium- and short-term maintenance strategies, planning, shutdowns, projects and overhauls.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Experience in spare parts inventory management.
  • Knowledge of defect elimination methodologies.
  • Strong task prioritization, time management and cross-functional organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills and good English language proficiency.
  • Ability to prepare formal maintenance reports and KPI reports.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to train Boilermakers in plasma, gas and electric arc welding techniques.
  • Ability to train Boilermakers in manual and semi-automatic welding equipment operations.
  • Ability to train Boilermakers in structural repairs involving dismantling, reshaping and reassembly of metal components.
  • Understanding of repair and fabrication requirements for different metal composites, including pre-heating and controlled cooling.
  • Ability to read blueprints and drawings and take or interpret measurements.
  • Ability to select appropriate welding equipment and methods based on repair requirements and specifications.

Desired

  • Experience using Pronto.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics.

Qualifications and Licences

  • Trade qualification as a Boilermaker from a nationally recognized institution.
  • Tanzania manual driving licence.
  • Supervisory qualifications, such as Frontline Management, are desirable.
  • Safety qualifications are desirable.
  • First Aid certificate is desirable.
  • Operating tickets for itinerant plant, lifting and rigging and related equipment are desirable.
  • Formal training and assessment qualifications are desirable.

Additional Information

  • The successful candidate must be prepared to undertake external training where required.
  • The role may occasionally require work outside normal working hours.
  • The incumbent may be required to travel on company business.

About Nyanzaga Gold Project

Nyanzaga Gold Project is Perseus Mining's first planned operation in Tanzania and is located in the Lake Victoria Goldfields. A Final Investment Decision was made in April 2025, with first gold production targeted for early 2027.

The project emphasizes sustainability and local development, including employment, skills training, infrastructure and long-term social outcomes. Once operational, Nyanzaga is expected to become an important contributor to Perseus Mining's future growth and a flagship project in East Africa.
