Crane Operator (01) Vacancy
Position Description
Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking to recruit a Crane Operator. The purpose of this role is to align with the Barrick DNA and drive a change within his team and the business. The overall objective of this position is to coordinate and operate a variety of material-moving equipment daily according to the schedule and instructions from the Supervisor, selecting and setting up the appropriate crane, lift, or hoist to complete each task safely and efficiently.

Report to: Plant mechanical supervisor
Duration: Permanent.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure all possible hazards on route and inside workplaces are identified, rectified, and/or reported daily when on shift (minimum 5 when on shift)
- Ensure zero involvement in an incident/ accident, and those occurred are reported to the leader within the Shift
- Ensure at least 1 Safety Interactions to be completed daily.
- Ensure the Field Level Risk Assessment is completed accurately by team members and signed off.
- All possible hazards on route and inside workplaces identified, rectified, and/or reported daily when on shift (minimum 5 when on shift)
- Zero involvement in an incident/ accident; those that occurred are reported to the leader within the Shift
- safely operates cranes to lift, move, and position heavy materials at mining sites.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise environmental projects.
- I am participating in the EIA studies for new projects.
- Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
- Safely operate various cranes (mobile, tower, overhead) to lift, lower, and place heavy objects.
- Perform daily inspections of the crane, rigging, cables, and hydraulic systems for safety and functionality.
- Set up outriggers, check ground stability, and position the crane correctly for lifts.
- Work closely with ground crews (riggers, signal people) using hand signals or radios to guide loads.
- Monitor load weights and crane capacity, ensuring loads are within safe limits.
- Perform minor repairs, clean equipment, and maintain logs.
- Inspecting cranes for mechanical issues and performing regular maintenance to ensure functional safety and compliance with regulations.
- Calculating crane capacities and weights to prepare for operations and prevent overload incidents.
- Operating crane under general supervision and making appropriate judgments in lifting operations to ensure the safety of all personnel and materials involved.
- Adhering to stringent safety protocols, including checking weather conditions and maintaining clear communication with other site workers.
- Recording and maintaining proper documentation of operations and maintenance logs.
- Operate a variety of material-moving equipment daily according to schedule and instructions from the Supervisor, choosing and setting up the right crane, lift or hoist to complete each task safely and efficiently.
- Inspect machines and equipment daily, perform routine maintenance procedures and minor repairs as required, and initiate additional repair requests from mechanics when necessary.
- Control cranes, lifts, and other equipment using standard operating procedures to ensure effective transportation of materials and safety for all personnel on site.
- Maintain visual and radio contact with ground operators/Rigger according to best practices and site safety regulations, and respond to questions and instructions clearly and quickly
- Listen to the site Supervisor’s/manager’s plan before starting every shift and complete all required tasks accurately and within assigned deadlines with limited supervision.
- Cranes and lifting accessories daily inspections and records
Qualification Requirements:
- Secondary school education.
- Sound knowledge of Mining Safety Regulations and best practice.
- Crane operation license for up to 150T or above from a recognized institute
Experience and Skills Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an Operator Machine
- Demonstrate Leadership and good teamwork. Must be able to solve problems.
- Excellent oral and listening skills for ground crew coordination.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and follow instructions precisely.
- Be physically and mentally fit and hard-working
- Read and interpret Service and operation manuals
- Be able to work under pressure with minimum or zero supervision.
- I am willing to attend standby and call – out duties.
- Driving Competency with Tanzania Driving License Class B, D, E, and F.
