Responsibilities
- Safely operate Integrated Tool Carriers and other heavy machinery (e.g., forklifts, loaders) with various attachments (forks, buckets, booms) to load, transport, and unload heavy materials.
- Transport mining supplies, including pipes, cables, ventilation components, drill consumables, and spare parts, from surface stores to underground working faces.
- Assist Production and Electrical/Communications crews by transporting and positioning heavy equipment components.
- Perform pre-start checks (pre-operational inspections) on equipment, conduct risk assessments, identify hazards (Hazard ID), and adhere to MSHA/regulatory standards.
- Perform general housekeeping in the work area and assist in ground control (scaling) when required.
- Assist with basic maintenance, fault finding, and lubrication of the equipment.
Qualification requirements
- Tertiary or ordinary secondary education.
- Valid driver's license (often Heavy Vehicle/HT license required for specific machines).
- Diploma in Mining Engineering will be of added advantage.
Experience and competencies needed.
- Minimum of 3 – 5 years of practical experience in underground mining, with specific experience in heavy equipment operation.
- Underground drilling knowledge and skills.
- Sound knowledge and experience of underground mining practices and operations.
- Knowledge of Safety, Health, and Environmental Legislation and standards applicable to underground mining
