Service Crew at Geita Gold Mine Tanzania

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

Ensure construction and service activities in the Underground Mining department are carried out safely and effectively to achieve expected targets.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Follow all safety requirements, use the Take 5 tool, comply with underground operating procedures, report hazards and incidents, and support safe work practices across the team.
• Carry out underground vent wall construction activities including scaffolding erection and dismantling, steel skeleton construction, timber works, and site housekeeping.
• Assemble and install primary ventilation fans and prepare skeleton walls for shotcreting in line with approved designs and layouts.
• Construct underground backfill barricade walls including formwork, reinforcement installation, timber works, housekeeping, and hot works in accordance with procedures.
• Support underground civil projects by constructing formwork, installing reinforcement bars, building concrete and cement pads to approved standards, and completing other manual works assigned by the Supervisor.
• Undertake training to become competent in underground air and water service line installation, offsider and nipper duties, underground machines, and light vehicle use underground where applicable.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

• Completion of Secondary School Education
• Valid Tanzanian Driving License

Experience

• 2-3 years of operational experience in an underground mining environment
• Experience operating underground utility vehicles
• Experience in erection of underground civil projects

Knowledge & Skills

• Thorough understanding and application of Job Safety Analysis Tool
• Ability to read and understand work plan and Mining Instruction
• Understanding of construction and civil works techniques
• Knowledge of timber formwork and steel fixing works
• Knowledge of hot work execution and procedures
• Reporting, cross shift communication, planning and execution of works, and coaching of new employees
