Job Description

Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited (SMLC) is seeking a Procurement Supervisor.

1. Position Purpose:

The Procurement Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating procurement activities to ensure the timely, compliant, cost-effective and efficient supply of goods and services required to support mining operations.

The position provides day-to-day leadership to the Procurement team and works closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers and other Supply Chain functions to ensure procurement requirements are effectively planned, sourced, evaluated, negotiated and delivered in accordance with company policies, procedures, approved budgets and applicable regulatory requirements.

The Procurement Supervisor is also responsible for procurement data analysis, performance monitoring and management reporting, providing accurate and meaningful insights to support decision-making, identify opportunities for cost reduction, improve procurement efficiency and strengthen overall Supply Chain performance.

2. Scope:

The Procurement Supervisor is responsible for:

  • Supervising day-to-day procurement activities and ensuring timely processing of Purchase Requisitions (PRs), Requests for Quotation (RFQs), Requests for Orders (ROs), Purchase Orders (POs) and related procurement documentation.
  • Ensuring procurement activities comply with company procurement policies, procedures, delegated authority requirements and applicable legislation.
  • Coordinating sourcing, quotation evaluation, commercial negotiations and supplier selection.
  • Monitoring procurement lead times, outstanding orders, PR/RO backlogs and supplier performance.
  • Supporting strategic sourcing and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Analysing procurement spend, purchasing trends, supplier performance and operational data.
  • Preparing accurate and timely procurement reports, dashboards and management presentations.
  • Identifying procurement risks, trends, inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement through data analysis.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of procurement strategies for critical goods and services.
  • Maintaining effective relationships with key internal stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Supporting continuous improvement and optimisation of procurement processes and systems.

3.Position Requirements:

Essential:

Minimum of three (3) years' relevant experience in procurement, purchasing or Supply Chain, preferably within the mining, processing, heavy industry or similar environment.

  • Strong understanding of procurement processes, sourcing, supplier evaluation and commercial negotiations.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate a procurement team.
  • Strong commercial and analytical capability.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to analyse large datasets, develop reports, prepare dashboards and identify trends and opportunities from procurement data.
  • Strong numerical and data interpretation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare clear and accurate management reports and presentations.
  • Strong knowledge of ERP/procurement systems.
  • Good understanding of procurement policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • High level of integrity, accountability and professional conduct.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capability.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a mining or mineral processing environment.
  • Experience managing procurement of mining equipment, spares, consumables, reagents, services and other operational requirements.
  • Experience with strategic sourcing and contract management.
  • Experience with Power BI or other business intelligence/reporting tools.
  • Experience analysing procurement spend and developing procurement performance dashboards.
  • Knowledge of local content requirements and regulatory compliance within the mining sector.
  • Membership of a recognised procurement or Supply Chain professional body.

4. Education / Qualifications / Tickets / Licences:

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Commerce, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Relevant professional qualification in Procurement or Supply Chain Management is advantageous.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable:

  • Professional procurement qualification such as CIPS or equivalent.
  • Training or certification in data analytics, Power BI or business intelligence.
  • Relevant training in contract management, negotiation or strategic sourcing.

5.Skills and Experience Required:

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following procurement and Commercial Skills

  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in Procurement or Supply Chain.
  • Strong knowledge of the end-to-end procurement cycle.
  • Ability to source and evaluate suppliers based on technical, commercial, quality, delivery and compliance requirements.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to achieve value-for-money outcomes.
  • Ability to identify cost-saving and cost-avoidance opportunities.
  • Understanding of supplier performance management and procurement risk.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Advanced Excel capability, including the ability to manipulate, analyse and interpret procurement data.
  • Ability to analyse spend, pricing, supplier performance, lead times, outstanding orders and procurement trends.
  • Ability to develop meaningful procurement KPIs and performance dashboards.
  • Ability to identify trends, exceptions, inefficiencies and areas requiring management attention.
  • Ability to convert complex procurement data into clear and actionable information.
  • Strong report-writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to present procurement performance and recommendations to management in a concise and professional manner.

Systems:

  • Strong working knowledge of ERP systems and procurement modules.
  • Ability to identify system/process issues and support improvements to procurement workflows and data quality.
  • Strong understanding of data integrity and accurate procurement master data.

Leadership and Stakeholder Management:

  • Ability to lead, coach and develop procurement personnel.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with operational departments and suppliers.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and resolve procurement issues effectively.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
