Job Profile
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing direction, technical guidance, and leadership in production to ensure the highest quality products, while optimizing production performance by holding teams accountable to achieve the highest standards of efficiency and quality, maximizing throughput and ENA recovery at the lowest cost.
Specific Job Accountabilities
- Contribute to the development of manufacturing plans, goals, and KPIs where required.
- Drive rigorous performance management, biased towards rewarding strong performance and compliance with critical behaviours, including managing consequences where required.
- Oversee operations and production planning (S&OP) to ensure efficiency, quality control, budgetary control, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
- Together with the teams, achieve shift, daily, weekly, and monthly performance targets against business and operational goals and objectives by ensuring that tasks are prioritised and planned in a logical, systematic, and cost-effective way to optimise profitability.
- Drive operational excellence by making informed trade-offs and driving initiatives that will deliver the greatest possible output and quality levels.
- Report on performance in line with KPIs, as well as key adverse or positive developments, to the Factory Head.
- Ensure compliance with Group minimum standards and processes for Production, ensuring products are within specification across each step of the value chain.
- Promote cross-functional and cross-production team leadership and engagement towards the achievement of agreed business goals.
- Conduct regular inspections of the factory and equipment in line with company, legislative, quality best practice, and food safety requirements.
- Ensure laboratory activities on shift operate in accordance with defined best practices to maintain effective process quality assurance.
- Direct artisans in line with reactive and planned maintenance activities during the shift.
- Adopt and embed agreed best practices, frameworks, and minimum standards for all aspects of sugar recovery.
- Identify areas where production and quality management can be improved and lead the implementation of processes and activities to make improvements.
- Establish and lead a problem-solving approach across the production process to identify and address problems and improvement opportunities.
- Develop capability on the job and hold supervisors accountable for performance.
- Provide input into business cases for key capital projects and support delivery, ensuring required economic and desired outcomes are delivered.
- Identify and monitor KPIs to track performance and flag any issues.
Must Have Skills
- Supervisory Skills.
Qualifications & Experience
- BSc Degree in Chemical and Processing Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy manufacturing (production and/or maintenance), with at least 2 years in distillery or sugar production.
- Good business acumen and manufacturing expertise, with the ability to anticipate, interpret, and respond to changes impacting the functional area.
- Strong track record in management and leadership.
