Job Description

Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited (SMLC) is seeking a Planner Mobile Fleet.

The Mobile Fleet Planner is a key contributor to maximizing the availability, reliability, and performance of the mobile equipment fleet while minimizing equipment downtime and optimizing life-cycle maintenance costs to support production targets.

The role supports the Planning Superintendent or designated delegate in developing, coordinating, and maintaining effective maintenance plans, schedules, work scopes, and resource requirements for mobile equipment and associated systems. The Mobile Planner ensures that the right maintenance work is identified, properly scoped, adequately resourced, and scheduled at the appropriate time to enable safe, efficient, and timely execution while minimizing disruption to production.

Key Responsibilities:

Management of Safety, Environment, & Community Relations

  • Comply with the Company's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Management System, site procedures, and all applicable legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate a strong duty of care and actively promote a positive safety culture by leading by example and encouraging safe work practices among employees, contractors, and other personnel.
  • Maintain a safe working environment within the area of responsibility and actively identify, communicate, and address potential hazards and unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in departmental safety meetings, toolbox meetings, incident reporting, and investigations as required.
  • Conduct and participate in formal and informal risk assessments, ensuring identified risks and controls are appropriately addressed before work is undertaken.
  • Operate vehicles, mobile equipment, and plant only when appropriately trained, competent, and authorized in accordance with Company requirements.
  • Promote safety awareness among maintenance and processing personnel and support initiatives that continuously improve HSE performance.
  • Lost Time Injury (LTI) performance – Target: Zero LTIs within the Maintenance Department.

People Management

Operations

  • Support the Planning Superintendent and Planning Coordinator in establishing and maintaining effective maintenance planning and scheduling processes for the mobile equipment fleet.
  • Review approved work requests, inspection findings, defect reports, and maintenance requirements, and create, update, and maintain work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) as well in the service schedule.
  • Develop detailed and executable maintenance work packages for mobile equipment, including work scopes, job steps, labour requirements, estimated durations, materials, tools, equipment, access requirements, and specialist services.
  • Plan and schedule preventive, predictive, corrective, breakdown, statutory, component change-out, major service, and campaign maintenance activities for the mobile fleet.
  • Maintain and update Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs in accordance with OEM recommendations, equipment operating conditions, site maintenance strategies, and statutory requirements.
  • Prioritize mobile equipment maintenance activities based on safety, equipment criticality, production requirements, equipment condition, operating hours, component life, and available resources.
  • Coordinate with Mobile Maintenance Supervisors, Technicians, Operations, Reliability, Engineering, Stores, Procurement, HSE, OEM representatives, and contractors to ensure maintenance activities are properly planned and execution-ready.
  • Ensure the availability of required spare parts, components, consumables, tools, lifting equipment, specialist services, and other resources prior to scheduled maintenance activities.
  • Monitor component and equipment maintenance requirements, including planned component replacements, rebuilds, overhauls, major services, and life-cycle maintenance activities.
  • Review OEM maintenance manuals, technical documentation, service bulletins, equipment specifications, and maintenance history to support accurate work scoping, planning, and resource identification.
  • Monitor and track work-order progress and fleet maintenance backlog, ensuring accurate status updates, timely completion, and effective communication of planning or execution constraints.
  • Adjust maintenance schedules as required to accommodate production priorities, equipment availability, operating hours, resource constraints, parts availability, and emerging maintenance requirements.
  • Support the planning and coordination of breakdown recovery activities, ensuring follow-up corrective work is properly scoped, resourced, documented, and scheduled.
  • Participate in mobile fleet shutdowns, major services, component change-outs, risk assessments, work-pack reviews, and post-maintenance reviews.
  • Maintain accurate equipment records, Bills of Materials (BOMs), job plans, task lists, maintenance strategies, component information, equipment hierarchies, and other relevant maintenance master data within the CMMS.
  • Ensure maintenance planning data, work-order information, equipment history, and supporting documentation are accurate, complete, current, and maintained in accordance with Company standards.
  • Support the preparation of annual mobile fleet maintenance budgets, cost forecasts, component replacement plans, and resource requirements.
  • Monitor planned versus actual labour hours, material usage, component costs, contractor costs, and maintenance expenditure and provide relevant information to support cost control.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of significant mobile equipment failures and support the implementation of corrective and reliability improvement actions.
  • Analyse mobile fleet maintenance history, equipment condition, component performance, backlog, and maintenance KPIs to identify opportunities for improved reliability, availability, maintainability, and maintenance efficiency.
  • Participate in preparing and distributing mobile fleet maintenance performance reports, including PM compliance, backlog, schedule compliance, equipment availability, downtime, component performance, and relevant maintenance KPIs.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving fleet reliability, maintenance effectiveness, component life, planning quality, and overall maintenance performance.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of the role as directed by management.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Attributes:

Essential

  • Minimum five (5) years' experience in mobile equipment maintenance planning, preferably within a mining, mineral processing, heavy industry, or similar operational environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in mobile fleet maintenance planning, scheduling, and work management
  • Ability to develop detailed and executable maintenance work packages, including work scopes, job steps, labour requirements, estimated durations, materials, tools, equipment, and specialist services.
  • Ability to interpret OEM manuals, service schedules, technical documentation, service bulletins, equipment specifications, drawings, and parts information to support maintenance planning and resource identification.
  • Good knowledge of mobile mining equipment and associated mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and control systems, including their maintenance requirements.
  • Good understanding of maintenance safety requirements, risk assessment, isolation/LOTO, lifting requirements, working-at-height requirements, and other safe work practices relevant to mobile equipment maintenance.
  • Pronto CMMS experience is required or SAP
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Project
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Valid approved driver's licence and ability to operate company/site vehicles where required.
