OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
To ensure mining activities such as drilling, blasting, ground support installation, infrastructure, bogging, haulage, service, safety and training achieve expected results.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Analyze data and prepare reports on mine production.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure efficient and safe production.
- Identify and troubleshoot production issues and recommend solutions.
- Complete safety leading indicators and Critical Control Verification for major hazards as per set targets.
- Comply with incident management protocol as per GGM procedure.
- Promptly act on issues that arise, ensuring accident or incident reporting and investigation is carried out and followed up.
- Ensure safe and proper implementation of all aspects of the operations in compliance with GGM Underground Standard Working Procedures.
- Support supervisors and provide direction and assistance with planning mining activities to meet daily, weekly and monthly production KPIs for development meters, production meters and total ore tons movement.
- Coordinate manpower, work roster preparation and annual leave scheduling in conjunction with Superintendent Production.
- Ensure the effectiveness of training in the department so that operators released from training are allocated machines to gain experience while completing the six-month period.
- Attend weekly and monthly production plan meetings.
- Attend weekly safety meetings and lead safety stoppage meetings with the crew to address previous incidents, provide feedback on closed action items and record new issues from employees.
- Liaise with contractors within the work area, ensuring their work is coordinated with other mining activities and that contractors are supported if a mining delay is reported.
- Report to Superintendent Mining Services and Construction on the performance and general behaviour of workers in the crew for recognition and improvement purposes.
- Inspect work progress of key underground projects to track performance and assist with delays or issues observed.
- Ensure underground equipment is maintained as per daily, weekly and monthly maintenance schedules.
- Ensure sufficient stock of underground consumables is available in underground and surface storage areas.
- Participate in conducting JSA for works within the section as required.
- Ensure production trucks follow and comply with communication and traffic management plans during operations.
- Ensure work areas are well prepared to enable GGM production machines working at NYK and GH to achieve daily targets.
- Support the Star & Comet operation if additional resources are required to complete critical works.
- Ensure compliance with internal overtime control for managing worker fatigue and cost.
- Ensure underground equipment utilization and availability.
- Ensure enough manpower is available for the next shift operation.
- Ensure good time management for achieving targets safely.
- Assist Crew Supervisors, if requested, to respond to issues raised by employees or escalate them for answers.
- Identify and recognize best performers in the crew and participate in preparing motivations for awards.
- Supervise dispatchers' work and information.
- Ensure no waste littering at the workplace and that waste is segregated at source and correctly disposed of as per site procedure.
- Ensure flora and fauna are given right of way and incidents related to any kills are reported as per procedure.
- Ensure dust is suppressed in work areas including washing of Safescape escape ways.
- Ensure all hydrocarbon or chemical spillages observed on surface and underground are reported as per procedure.
- Ensure underground supervisors understand and comply with all statutory, legislative and GGM requirements and review this on a quarterly basis.
- Discuss and review 3MS monthly, weekly and daily work plans with supervisors to meet planned expectations for development meters, production meters, and ore and waste tons.
- Ensure weekly active workplace inspections are completed and hazards are recorded and rectified.
- Ensure all underground personnel are aware of and committed to their duty of care responsibilities.
- Ensure all incidents are reported, recorded and investigated as per GGM policy.
- Ensure no damage is caused to underground equipment or underground infrastructure.
- Monitor and minimize wastage to control operational cost in the department.
- Carry out weekly inspection of all underground work areas and ensure good compliance to departmental leading indicators.
- Carry out weekly inspection to ensure all active headings are equipped with different sizes of scaling bars.
- Carry out weekly inspection of all underground infrastructure including air, water, electrical, vents and discharge lines installed to approved standard.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Completion of Secondary School Education.
- Valid Driving License.
- Valid Blasting Certificates would be an added advantage.
Experience
- At least 8 years of working experience in underground operation.
- At least 4 years in a supervision role in both sublevel longitudinal stopping and transverse mine.
- Experience working as an Underground Supervisor.
- Experience working as an Underground Senior Supervisor.
- Experience working at a mechanized mine.
- Proven track record of managing and leading large and diverse teams.
- Underground equipment operation experience.
Knowledge & Skills
- Working knowledge of underground mining, haulage and backfilling.
- Demonstrated experience in planning, delegating tasks, assigning resources and managing operations to achieve production and cost objectives.
- Demonstrated experience with autonomous decision making and creating contingency plans for unexpected hurdles.
- Demonstrable record of managing safe mine operations, with a good knowledge of relevant international mining standards.
- Demonstrated experience managing teams to achieve successful outcomes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with and manage a culturally diversified workforce.
- Ability to work across all disciplines where rigorous engagement and interaction is expected.
- Ability to work independently while strictly adhering to safety and task priorities.
- Fluent in English, both oral and written.
