Role Description:
This is a full-time on-site role for a Social Worker located in Karatu,Arusha . The Social Worker will be responsible for providing counseling and support services to the girls, developing individualized care plans, coordinating with other staff for holistic support, and maintaining detailed records of each girl's progress. Additional tasks include advocacy, helping girls access educational opportunities, and conducting community outreach to foster a supportive environment both within and outside the rescue center.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Social Worker to join our team at MGRC. In this role, you will work directly with children and young girls in residential care, helping them overcome trauma, develop life skills, and work towards safe, permanent, and stable living arrangements. You will also support family reunification when appropriate, coordinate care plans, and advocate for each child’s best interests.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct psychosocial assessments of children upon intake and at regular intervals.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with care staff, therapists, and other professionals.
- Provide emotional support and one-on-one counselling to children dealing with trauma, neglect, abuse, or behavioural challenges.
- Support family reunification efforts or assist in finding suitable foster/adoptive placements when possible.
- Act as a liaison between the MGRC and external agencies such as social services, schools, mental health providers, and legal representatives.
- Monitor children’s emotional, academic, and social progress and update care plans accordingly.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and child protection conferences.
- Educate children on life skills, coping strategies, and self-care practices.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in accordance with legal and ethical standards.

Requirements:
Diploma in Social Work (DSW) required; Bachelor's degree in Social Work (BSW) preferred.
Five(5) years of previous experience working with vulnerable children, youth, or in a residential care setting is highly preferred.
Strong understanding of child development, trauma-informed care, and safeguarding procedures.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
Ability to work under pressure, manage crises, and make sound decisions.
Cultural sensitivity and an understanding of diverse family dynamics.
Flexibility to work evenings or weekends if needed.
Working Conditions:
- Based in a residential care facility with occasional travel for home visits, court hearings, or school meetings.
- May encounter emotionally challenging situations, requiring resilience and self-care.
- Work is collaborative and team-oriented, involving daily interaction with children, staff, and professionals from various sectors.
